It’s true that many people thing web designing is something that is impossible unless you’re a professional.
However, the truth is that if you want to design your own website, it’s completely possible. Web design software platforms have come a long way, and they are more intuitive than you might think.
Whether you want to design a website for your personal use or you’re trying to save money on a site for your start-up business, why not start by exploring these software options? They’re all highly-touted for their usability, and they will get you closer to your goal of having a thriving, good-looking, functional website:
- Wix
Wix has taken center stage as one of the premiere web designing software engines. One of the most compelling aspects of Wix is that you don’t have to know anything about coding to have an attractive site that looks modern. Find a template — there are hundreds — that works for your needs, and start to design. The downside? Wix limits storage with a basic plan.
- Weebly
Like Wix, Weebly gives you the ability to create a responsive website without having to know code. You can add everything from a shopping cart to a search engine optimized blog. Plus, Weebly offers unlimited storage capacity. The downside is Weebly doesn’t have nearly as many templates as Wix. This means there’s a higher chance your Weebly site may look similar to a competitor’s.
- Duda
Duda is everything you need to get started with a template-based website. Not only do you have the capacity to build a site using their simple interface — even if you are technically-challenged — but you can even enjoy limited marketing analytics. You can’t have a proprietary email address in Duda, though.
- Squarespace
Looking for a website design software that’s about as simplified as possible? Head to Squarespace. The goal of this platform is to get your site running fast. Currently, Squarespace offers almost 100 templates, ensuring you’ll find one that reflects your business. There’s no phone support with Squarespace, though. You’ll have to get any help in a web-based environment instead.
- Yahoo SiteBuilder
Craving a website software creator with more templates than you actually need? Yahoo SiteBuilder has hundreds, which gives you the chance to find one that’s suitable.
For a basic site that’s not ecommerce-driven, Yahoo SiteBuilder works very well. It’s also low-cost, but you’ll have to pay for upgrades, such as creating a mobile responsive site — which you honestly need in today’s market. If you have a big team, you’ll like having up to 500 email addresses on hand to use as part of the package.
- GoDaddy
You may have purchased domains from GoDaddy in the past. Now, you can use GoDaddy to not only buy and host domains, but to create template-based websites, too. GoDaddy is very user-friendly and offers more than 300 templates for your browsing needs.
Unlike other template software sites, GoDaddy won’t automatically give you any vouchers for advertising credits. It also won’t give you a free domain. If those are factors that are important to you, another template software company might be a wiser choice.
- Homestead
Homestead is another of the website template locations that makes creating your site relatively effortless, but it doesn’t offer responsive themes. You can pay for an upgrade to make sure your site is prepped for mobile users, though.
If you want marketing capabilities that have been integrated into the platform, Homestead probably isn’t the right fit. However, with an unlimited number of webpages and five email addresses included in the basic package, it’s not a bad first website investment.
How to Know Which Web Design Software to Choose
As you reflect on all the web design software options on the market, you’ll want to keep the following considerations in mind to help you narrow your choices:
- How robust do I want my website to be?
- How much time do I have to invest in the development of my website?
- How much money am I willing to pay to have a website?
- Would I be better off working with a designer to create a unique template?
Answering these questions will help you make a determination that will satisfy your needs, as well as your site users’ needs.
